Malaysian Open 2023 Round 1 update

With the exception of the following, round 1 results were as expected, with the stronger ELO players overwhelming the weaker.

GM Deepan Chakkravarthy was forced to a draw by Kaushal Khandar, who was playing Black.

FM Wong YInn Long was tied by WFM Diajeng Theresa Singgih. The WFM is underrated, having lost ELO points over the years, with her greatest rating being 2164, therefore there is a rating discrepancy of 500 points between the two, which is perhaps not surprising.

Claudio Vargues Vasco of Lasama successfully held GM Nguyen to a draw. The latter was a White player.Masruru Rahman was defeated by Steven Tan.

WGM Janelle Mae Frayna was tied by Marrhuimawan, Maximiliano, who has a lower ELO score than the WGM by roughly 500 points.
